14 CFR section 61.189 requires that instructors sign the logbook of each person they have given ground or flight training. AC 61-65 contains suggested endorsements, and this appendix reprints several of the more commonly used endorsements. All of these examples contain the essential elements, but it is not necessary for endorsements to be worded exactly as those in the AC. For example, changes to regulatory requirements may affect the wording or the instructor may customize the endorsement for any special circumstances of the student.

Student Pilot Endorsements

Pre-solo aeronautical knowledge: §61.87(b)
I certify that (First name, Ml, Last name) has satisfactorily completed the pre-solo knowledge exam of §61.87(b) for the (make and model aircraft). S/S [date] JT Jones 987654321 CH Exp. 12-31-00
